General FAQ

What is the Casambi app for?

The Casambi app is used primarily for programming and control of lighting control applications. It can be used to control any Casambi enabled product. These can include Casambi's own native products or any product available from our ecosystem partners. Casambi's native "white" devices can also be used to convert non-Casambi luminaires to full Casambi compatibility. All Casambi products are compatible with the Casambi app and with each other.

What mobile devices support the Casambi app?

Casambi App for iOS: Requires iOS 9.0 or later. iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C or newer models 3rd generation iPad (2012, A14xx) or newer iPad mini all models 6th generation iPod touch or newer. Casambi App for Android: Minimum Requirement: Android 4.4 KitKat and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy, BT 4.0) Recommended Requirements: Devices with Android 5.0 Lollipop or later and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy, BT 4.0).

Where can I get the Casambi app?

The Casambi app is free for download from the Apple App Store (iOS devices) or from the Google Play Store (Android devices).

What is the maximum size of one Casambi network?

A Classic network can have up to 127 devices. An Evolution network can have up to 250 devices. Classic & Evolution devices cannot be mixed in a network (i.e. Devices with Classic firmware can only be used on a Classic network, and devices with Evolution firmware can only be used on an Evolution network). For larger installations, multiple networks can be created and then combined to a "Site".

How do I access a network?

This depends on the sharing settings of the network you are trying to access. To access a network, go to the ‘More’ tab and choose ‘Change network’ or if you are in the main welcome screen tap on ‘My Networks’. You can then “Log in to network” or select an existing network (if any are available). If you “Log in to network” you will have to know the administrator email address and password that has been set when the network was shared. If you select an existing network the app may or may not request a password is entered (depending on how the network has been shared). If a network does not use a gateway then you will need to be within Bluetooth range of the network.

Can others use their mobile device to control my lamps?

This depends on the sharing level of your network. If you have set the sharing to ‘Open’, then all other mobile devices within Bluetooth range can have the possibility to control your luminaires. However, they cannot change the actual programming (scenes, timers etc.). If you have set any other sharing option for your network, other people need to know at least a password in order to be able to control your luminaires. When creating a new network the default setting is ‘Not Shared’.
